Lucky Chinatown marked Filipino-Chinese Friendship Day with the 2026 Chinese Filipino Business Club, Inc. The two-day event brought together more than 300 participants from 93 teams for a vibrant celebration of sportsmanship, culture, and community in the heart of Binondo.
Organized by the Chinese Filipino Business Club, Inc., the tournament welcomed players, families, sports enthusiasts, and supporters for a weekend of friendly competition. Guided by the principle “Friendship first, competition second,” the event highlighted table tennis as a shared passion that continues to connect communities across generations.
The tournament drew participation from various schools, organizations, and athletic groups, including representatives from College of Saint Benilde, Mapúa University, University of Santo Tomas, Adamson University, University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, San Beda University, Emilio Aguinaldo College, Manila Central University, Philippine Cultural College, and Philippine Christian University, among others.
The opening ceremony on June 6 welcomed participating teams and guests with remarks from Gerald Uy Chan, President of CFBCI. Also present were Minister Counselor Wang Wei of the Chinese Embassy in the Philippines; Mr. Patrick Gregorio, Chairman of the Philippine Sports Commission; Mr. William Castro of the Filipino Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation; and Norico Mizoguchi of Lucky Chinatown. Mr. Paul Yeung, Executive Vice President of CFBCI, led the oath of sportsmanship, followed by a ceremonial ball that officially opened the tournament.
Throughout the weekend, the Lucky Chinatown Atrium transformed into a lively sporting venue filled with fast-paced rallies, spirited cheers, and friendly matchups. The tournament featured four categories, with players competing for 2nd runner-up, 1st runner-up, and champion titles in each division. Winners were recognized during the awarding ceremony on June 7, closing the celebration with moments of pride, teamwork, and sportsmanship
Table tennis holds a meaningful place in Chinese culture, where it is widely celebrated as a sport that reflects discipline, precision, and unity. In the Philippines, it has also become a familiar part of schools, clubs, community programs, and recreational spaces, making it an accessible activity for players of all ages. Through the tournament, this shared love for the game became a bridge for cultural exchange and sportsmanship.
