Manila, Philippines — A recent survey conducted by Tangere reveals significant insights into the awareness, usage, and sentiments of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) regarding their PWD ID discounts at restaurants. The study, conducted from February 14-19, 2025, surveyed 100 respondents across various age groups and locations, shedding light on the experiences and challenges faced by PWD ID holders.
The survey provides a comprehensive look into how PWDs navigate the benefits afforded to them through their PWD IDs, particularly in dining establishments. With a majority of respondents actively using their discounts, the findings highlight both positive experiences and areas where improvements are needed. This timely study underscores the necessity for ongoing collaboration between the government and private sector to enhance accessibility and ease of use for PWDs nationwide.
Key Findings:

- However, 1 in 5 respondents encountered difficulties during the application.
- Popular Channels for PWD ID Applications:

- Wide Usage of PWD Discounts:
- 96% of PWD ID holders have used their discounts at restaurants.
- The majority also avail of their benefits for public transportation, medical and dental services, and purchases at drugstores.
- Positive Dining Experience with PWD Discounts:
- 89% of respondents reported a positive experience when using their PWD ID at casual dining, family-style restaurants, and bistros.
- Despite this, 7% mentioned experiencing some challenges while availing of discounts.
- Awareness of PWD ID Benefits:
- Respondents are well-informed about the broad range of benefits, including discounts for entertainment, domestic travel, and access to various establishments.
- Views on PWD Discount Subsidies:
- Opinions on who should shoulder the PWD discount costs are divided.
- Approximately half of the respondents believe the subsidy should be shared between the government and private businesses.
- 97% agree that there should be discussions between the government and private sectors regarding PWD discount policies.
The study highlights the need for ongoing dialogue between the government and private businesses to ensure that PWDs continue to receive equitable access to the benefits afforded by their PWD IDs. As awareness grows and policies improve, it is crucial to streamline processes and remove barriers to access.
